'Venting Time'...Copyright Infringement?

Ok ladies and gentlemen...it's time for me to vent yet again. Well, maybe not vent exactly, but try to ask for some kindness and understanding. And maybe a favor or two.

It seems like everyday I hear of someone being hit with 'copyright' infringement violation...and that got me to wondering. While I understand the importance of always 'giving credit where credit is due', must we always assume that just because someone has posted something that you may have designed, or a photo you have taken, that it's automatically an infringement of your copyright. Does it ever occur to anyone, that maybe, just maybe, it was an innocent oversight, instead of a blatant violation? I for one, have posted pictures online that when I posted them, I was so excited to share the image, I have forgotten to trace it back to it's owner...or I have attempted to trace it back only to reach a dead-end. Am I a criminal, or just a giddy gal who is super excited to sharing a great idea? In my case, the latter is true.

Believe me, Marjorie and I completely understand the 'ins and outs' of copyright infringement and violation, and we completely agree with all the rules and regulations in place to protect the artist, but at what point does this all become ridiculous? If we had a dollar for every time we found an image online from a wedding at the 'Coloma Country Inn' or a design set-up 'InnCredible Events' had created, with 'no credit', we'd be rich! Do we get angry...do we get upset...NO! We merely go in and add information about the fact we did the work. End of story.

So, here is what I'm asking...a favor of sorts. Instead of getting all 'hot and bothered' jumping to the conclusion that someone is purposely violating your copyright, would it be possible to be kind to one another. And either contact the person and ask that your information be included...or better yet, go in and add it on the 'Comments' box. I bet, 9 times out of 10, the poster is completely oblivious to their oversight...and would be more than happy to correct it.

Ok, I've said my peace. I guess I did vent a little bit...sorry. But I do feel better now. Comments anyone???

'If the Show Fits'...Wedding Shoe Trends for 2012

Ok...ok, I admit it...I love shoes. In fact, if you were to look in my closet right now, you'd see box, after plastic box of flats, heels and boots. Truth be told, I'm afraid to count the boxes...LOL! Did someone just call me, 'Imelda Marcos'...? Well, I'm not quite that bad...LOL!

However, with that in mind, as I sit and look at the stacks of shoe boxes my closet holds, I decided to also take a look at wedding shoes and what's trending for 2012.

This year there will be a lot more platforms walking the aisles than in years past. I'm still on the fence about these, but that's probably because I've already lived them back in the '70's when they were first popular...or maybe it's because I'm afraid I'll fall and break a hip...LOL. No matter, they are definitely HOT this season...

Color is also IN this year...and not surprisingly since color is BIG with everything for 2012. Many brides will be opting for big, bright, and/or bold shoes to add a bit of 'pop' to their gorgeous gowns, and in some cases a bit of fun as well.

Rhinestones...rhinestones...rhinestones. There is nothing that screams glamour louder than rhinestones. And this year, platform or not, these beauties are still in style. Yippee!

Booties are also a bride pleaser with styles ranging from solids to lace...look for these to grace ceremonies all year long.

And of course, the ever popular, cowboy, or in this case, cowgirl boots are back! Brides choosing an outdoor, rustic wedding are looking to these classics to set the tone for their entire day. Not liking the brown, well these beauties come in many different styles and colors as well...but I kinda like the traditional ones the best...how about you?

Not feeling the cowgirl boot trend but still love boots...take a look at these sexy lace lovelies that would look InnCredible under any gown.

Good news ladies...Retro is still IN style...and more so than last year. It's such a fun look, and if you can carry it off...why not? There is nothing more 'campy' than a retro wedding with all the fab details...including the shoes.

Now, if you're a traditionalist, there are many gorgeous styles awaiting you in 2012 as well. We all know that the classics never, ever go out of style. So whether you choose a Peep-Toe, Strappy or Pointed-Toe, you can't go wrong with a classic.

Flats are also a BIG fav for 2012...of course. And with so many gals liking this trend, wedding shoes are catching on fast.

And finally, you know this post would not be complete without some quirky, 'over-the-top' shoes...right? So here are my picks for the most outrageous of 2012. LOL.

'Spring is in the Air'...Color Trends for Spring 2012.

'Spring is in the air'...well, at least it is around here anyway. Trees are budding, tulips and narcissus are blooming...and the robins are out in force... which makes me crave color. This Spring the experts predict that color is back...and lots of it. Big, bright and bold color! Yippee!

After reviewing a number of wedding blogs, it seems the overall favorite for 2012 Spring weddings is 'Tangerine Tango'. A bright, saturated orange that will make quite a statement. It can easily stand on it's own or be paired with others for a beautiful look.

Not into orange, well how about yellow? 'Pinterest' predicts that 'Solar Power' will be a crowd pleaser this Spring as well. Look at how gorgeous this color is. Again, you can use it alone, or pair it with other Spring favs...to me it screams 'happy...happy...happy'.

'Caberet' is another big color for Spring. Not quite as dark as the wine, this pretty pink has more depth than the softer shades. 'Pinterest' calls it 'fun, festive, bright and energizing'...and it is definitely all that and more!

Another HOT color this year is 'Bellflower'. So, for those of you who love all shades of purple and lavender, this just may be what you're looking for to stay in step with the trends. Mix this with a soft grey or silver...stunning!

And finally, for all you 'blue' fans. Spring 2012, did not disappoint. This year's Number 1 blue is 'Sodalite'. A cross between Navy and Royal, this luxurious color can be mixed or matched with other trendy colors, or take center stage.

'Friendor or Foe'...?

This is something we hear all the time...'I'm going to have my friend be my wedding planner', or 'My friend is going to be my DJ'...etc...etc...etc. Sound familiar? Well, if this is something you're considering, here are a few things to consider before you have a 'friendor' work the biggest day of your life.

There is no official definition for the word, 'friendor'...not even in 'Urban Dictionary'...but those of us in the industry consider a 'friendor' to be a friend who you ask, or hire, as a vendor for your wedding. In theory this doesn't sound bad, right? But, here are a few questions to ask yourself...

First of all...this is THE biggest day of you life, so do you want to trust someone who is NOT a professional to handle any part of it.

Second, how are you going to feel if your 'freindor' doesn't live up to your expectations and do the job you want them to do?

And third, how will you deal with the friendship if you're disappointed in your 'friendors' performance?

Not easy questions to answer, I know...but things you need to think about before you ask your friends for help.

In addition, here are some 'Pros' and 'Cons' for you to consider...and, yes, there are 'Pros'...LOL!

Pros...

Hiring a 'friendor' would allow you to include friends in your wedding that you might not include on your guest list
Might help you save money
Might help you feel more comfortable than having a stranger work your wedding

Cons...

Hiring a 'friendor' may end up killing your friendship
May put a tremendous amount of responsibility on an untrained professional that they are not prepared for
May end up costing you more in the long run when something doesn't get done to your satisfaction
May add tremendously to your stress

Now, I don't want to squelch your ideas about asking your friends to help you with your wedding...but I do want you to think long and hard before you venture into this arena. Too often, Marjorie and I have seen this go sour very quickly.

For instance, we've had situations where the people who agreed to do certain things, either backed out at the last minute, or just didn't bother to show up. We've had times where the tasks assigned were not completed to the couples liking. And we've had occasions where the 'friendor' had taken it upon themselves to do whatever they wanted regardless of what the couple requested.

On the flip side...we had one bride who's friends were so together and so organized...and so thrilled to help...that they actually went above and beyond what was expected of them. But, that my friends, is usually the exception to the rule.

So, here's a good 'rule of thumb'...

If you don't trust them...don't ask them to help you
If your 'gut' tells you 'no'...then don't
If they begin questioning your wants and desires...walk away
Be prepared to negotiate
And make sure each of your 'friendors' understand they are there to work and not take part in the festivities.

So, there you have it. Tell us how you feel about having 'friendors' help with your wedding. The good, the bad and the ugly...we want to hear about it!

'A Few of My Favorite Things'...Jill & Nigel Get Married

Oh my goodness, there were so many DIY ideas at Jill and Nigel's wedding that it was hard for me to choose just a few to highlight...but, here are a few that really 'knocked my socks off'...

The Airstream trailer...need I say more? It was a show stopper!

Beer Cover-Up...

Jill and Nigel's good friend, Chad, owns 'Santa Cruz Mountain Brewing', and was bringing several pony kegs of his amazing brews to the festivities as his wedding gift to the happy couple. The issue was...in chatting with this charming fellow, I found out that the 'jockey box' he would be using was an old, beat-up blue and white ice chest. Yikes. This would never do! Not with all the effort we all had put into designing this wedding. So, I turned to our creative genius, also known as Marjorie, for help with this design dilemma. After about thirty seconds she announced she had an InnCredible idea! She took one of the old vintage trunks we had just hanging around, cut holes in it for the taps and used it to disguise the 'nasty' jockey box.

Genius, right!

When we found the old 'Shefford' stand at our favorite vintage store, 'The Barn' in El Dorado, the look was complete. Oh, and just FYI...because this was a last minute addition, and it was really last minute, Marjorie didn't have time to add any vintage pieces to cover the holes she cut in the trunk. But, have no fear, the search is on for the perfect ones.

Lawn Games...

Jill wanted her guests to have something to do at all times, so we gathered together a number of lawn games and set them out for all to use. And everyone did...even the kids got into the action.

Hobo Sacs...

To say, 'Welcome to Our Wedding', Jill and Nigel gave each of their guests a 'Hobo Sac' Welcome Kit complete with all the necessities for the camping weekend...firewood, kindling, specialty matches, S'mores sticks all bundled together with a bandana and a lovely 'Thank You' note.

Kids Table....

A number of the guests coming for the weekend celebration were bringing their children, so Jill decided to have a special 'kids table' just for them. We covered a picnic table with butcher paper and put out loads of crayons, markers and stickers for the kids to use. It was magical. Watching the kids create was one of the highlights of the evening.

And since there were going to be so many little ones, we suggested they hire a 'sitter' to entertain the kids so their parents could enjoy themselves. Marjorie's youngest daughter, Meagan, is a RN, and within seconds she had all the kids gathered around her having the times of their lives. Child care is invaluable when you have children at your wedding...and it's well worth the cost!

And finally...

The Photographers...

I know...that sounds funny right? But, here's why. Jill and Nigel hired 'Jagger Photography' to fly down from the Seattle area to shoot their InnCredible camping weekend...but, what we didn't know until they arrived, was that Heather was about 7 months pregnant. Can you believe it, 7 months pregnant! I have to give Heather a heck of a lot of credit...it was pretty hot the day of the reception and Heather was out in full force, shooting away with her camera. Kudos to you Miss Heather...and congratulations on your new little bundle of joy...Myles!

So, there you have it...a few of my favorite things from Jill and Nigel's InnCredible camping wedding reception weekend.

'Keep Calm & Marry On'...Jill & Nigel Get Married

Jill and Nigel met years ago and the poor man fell head over heels for this lovely lady but was forced to wait 15 months until she'd agree to a second date. Talk about patience. Yikes! Once that second date happened, well, the rest, as they say, is history.

Polar opposites, Jill is a lovely, ethereal free spirit who spoke her mind and Nigel is a charming, detail-oriented Brit who raised his hand when he had something to say. Both were delightful beyond words.

Our lovely couple actually got married in Fiji and then hosted a 'camping reception' weekend for 65 of their closest friends and family at the 'Coloma Resort'. They lived in Santa Cruz.

Jill called us frantically one day when she was sitting in an airport waiting to board a flight to who-knows-where. She went on and on about what her vision for this weekend was, and what she wanted the campground to look like. The one issue standing in our way was that she wanted this InnCredible camping reception to be catered, naturally, but on the busiest wedding day of the year...September 10, 2011. Yikes! I immediately got on the phone, and low and behold, found that one of our favorite caterers, 'Beth Sogaard Catering' was actually available, so we were in business!

Our challenge...

Take the campground and turn it into the rustic, yet lovely, romantic vision that Jill wanted...and somehow block off the area from view. And also find the perfect location for the Airstream trailer that they would be staying in for the weekend. Wow! Not ones to back down from a challenge, Marjorie and I were off and running!

This is what we started with...minus the tents.

And this is what we did...

Per Jill and Nigel's instructions, we placed all the picnic tables randomly around the grounds and paired them with picnic benches and our 'Vintage Elegance' brown and white mix and match chairs. We then draped the tables with white linens and added burlap runners that Jill provided.

When we were finished dressing the tables with all of Jill's decor pieces, we moved on to the 'Guest Book' area. Jill and Nigel were traveling the world after this big shebang, so she incorporated maps into their theme.

She brought a vintage typewriter for guests to write them 'love notes' and then drop them into an old bottle. And, how fun is this...she used a deck of cards for her table numbers. Guests chose a card, and found their tables...genius, right!!!

Now the really fun part....the 'Dessert Table'. Ok, so Jill liked pie, and Nigel liked cake, so as a compromise, they did a combination of both for their dessert table...along with some French macaroons just for good measure. Jill and her gals made the ribbon backdrop from strips of fabric and we hung it between the two trees and added our 'Vintage Elegance' cake stands...and viola!...A InnCredible dessert table! Oh Yum!!!

When all was 'said and done', we hung what seemed like millions and millions of sheer drapes to blur the view so there was a definition between the reception area and the cocktail area.

We opened the sheers when Jill and Nigel made their 'Grand Entrance'...

Jill and Nigel are traveling the world now and we wish them 'Happy Travels' and a safe return to Santa Cruz!

'Planner...Coordinator... What the heck????

There is a lot of confusion out there about the difference between a 'wedding planner', a 'wedding coordinator', a 'wedding consultant' and a 'wedding designer'. And just so you don't feel completely 'out-of-it', the confusion lies within our own industry as well. I too am a bit confused, at times, over what all these terms mean, and have been, 'called on the carpet', I will admit, by a bride for what she perceived was the wrong term. So, none of us are exempt. LOL!

To clear up the confusion, I've called on the experts at 'Brides Magazine' to help us all out.

According to 'Brides Magazine', there are three different distinctions between the services that wedding planners/coordinators offer...and here they are:

'Full-Service Planner'...

First, a sidebar...neither Marjorie nor I really like the term 'full-service'. To us it gives the impression that unless you want this particular package, we are not giving you 100%....which is never the case. Instead, we like to use the term 'complete coordination', because no matter what package you choose (and that's solely based on your needs), a professional planner is usually going to give you their 'ALL'.

Ok, now that we have that out of the way...here we go.

'Brides Magazine' defines a 'Full-Service Planner' as a 'Wedding Planner', a 'Wedding Coordinator' or a 'Wedding Producer'.

They will...

Provide you with vendor referrals, and may negotiate vendor contracts.
Schedule and attend all vendor meetings and tastings with you...and act on your behalf during said meetings.
Create a detailed timeline and site-layout, or floor plan, of your ceremony and reception sites
Help you determine, manage and stay on track with your budget
Attend all site tours
Brainstorm theme and style ideas, and also coordinate design details to keep you from having a DIY-aster! They may also secure these items for you to keep you from running around town to collect them all
Coordinate hotel rooms and transportation, if necessary
Coordinate and manage your rehearsal
Oversee everything on the day of your wedding so you can relax and enjoy your big day. This means making sure everyone adheres to the timeline, handling anything that may arise, managing your vendors and their questions, and executing your vision.

'Wedding Designer'...

'Brides Magazine' defines these professionals as 'Wedding Stylists' or 'Wedding Architects'.

They will...

Create your wedding design concept
Provide you with color palette guidance
Oversee your decor budget and vendors
Locate and secure any special props or equipment you may need to create your vision
Attend site visits and design a layout
Create detailed floor plans
Ensure all your decor elements are in place the day of your wedding

'Day Of' Planner....

Ok, here I go again putting my 'two-cents' worth in. Honestly, there is NO such thing as a 'Day Of' planner. Believe me, there is no way any professional planner, coordinator or consultant can, or would, show up the day of your wedding and be able to manage it. In fact, if you're talking to a 'planner' who says they can do this, run for the hills...and fast!

Many wedding professionals now use the term, 'Month Of', because it's much more descriptive of the type of service this package offers.

'Brides Magazine' defines a 'Day Of' Planner as a 'Wedding Consultant' or a 'Wedding Director'.

They will...

Put in at least 25 hours of pre-wedding day work...versus the 80--250 hours a 'full-service planner'
Meet with you four to eight weeks before your wedding to get an ideal on what you've planner thus far
Contact all your vendors, review all signed contracts and confirm the logistics
Create a detailed timeline and site layout or floor plan
Complete a final walk-thru of the ceremony and reception sites
Address any overlooked details
Manage your rehearsal
Oversee everything the day of your wedding

So, how do you choose which is right for you? Well, it all depends on just how much or how little you want your planner, coordinator, consultant, designer...etc, to do for you. Most wedding planners/coordinators have variations of each of these packages available for you to choose from, and most will be structured a bit differently based on their expertise.

We suggest that you hire a planner/consultant/coordinator, to at least manage the day of your wedding to not only reduce your stress, but also so your family and friends will be able to share in the joy of your day, and not be responsible for working.

If however, you choose to have a 'friendor'* help with your 'Day Of' management, make sure they are well aware of what they are responsible for, and that they are not there to party with the rest of your guests...they are there to work.

(*'friendor'...a friend you hire as a vendor...more on the hazards of this later.)

'A Few of My Favorite Things...'

Unlike some of our counterparts, Marjorie and I love DIY brides. We love the creative, personal ideas that they each bride brings to their weddings...all the wonderful ideas that make their wedding uniquely their own. But more importantly, we love sharing these ideas with you so you can gather bits of 'InnSpiration' as well. So, here are a few of Addison's 'InnCredible' DIY ideas that caught my eye...

'Fire Flies'...yep, 'fire flies'! When Addison first came to us, all she talked about were these 'fire flies' that she was 'bound and determined' to have scattered everywhere around the 'Shakespeare Club'. For the life of us, Marjorie and I could not figure out what in the world these little things were...but we soon found out. Addison's fire flies were actually little lights that blinked at different speeds. Magical...simply magical! And what a hit! I think every guest at the wedding wanted to know where she got them...and to this day, I still get calls from folks asking where they can get their own. So, here they are, Addison's little 'fire flies'.

Another one of Addison's 'InnCredible' ideas was having a 'Wish Tree'. Her mom, Lori, cut out leaves and brushed them with gold paint.

Then we set them at each guests place. Addison and James asked everyone to write their 'wedding wishes' on the backside of the leaf and then hang them on their 'Wish Tree'. Even though the picture below doesn't' show it...at the end of the night, there was not a branch left to hang any more wishes on...

Addison put all the 'wishes' in their memory box and she and James will read each and every one on their anniversary as they toast with their celebratory bottle of 'cizer' which has also been tucked away in the memory box. Such a lovely idea! And, yes, you may borrow it..LOL!

They also decided they didn't want to have a cake. I think Addison's exact words were, 'I don't want no stinkin' cake'...LOL. Instead, Addison and James had a caramel apple bar complete with a myriad of tasty toppings. Oh my goodness, this went over like 'gang busters'. Everyone loved it and kept going back for seconds, and thirds...and, well, you get the idea.

Our newlyweds did the ceremonial 'cake cutting', only they served each other bites of apples. Oh yum! If you're not a cake fan, you might want to consider this! It was loads of fun!

Ok, I've saved the best for last. I love, love, love this idea. Since both Addison and James are members of the 'SCA', or 'Society for Creative Anachronisms', there was a lot of discussion about what the Groom and his Groomsmen and Gal would wear for boutonnieres. Well, hello, LEGO knights, of course!!!!! So Addison had her fabulous florist, Mo from 'Perfect Parties by Mo' take the LEGO knights that they had constructed and make them into bouts. I loved it!!! These were so cute and so perfect for this group.

I know a lot of planners are opposed to DIY weddings, or even DIY touches in weddings...but Marjorie and I say, bring it on. The more the merrier as far as we are concerned. It's these little touches that make the biggest impact and make your wedding uniquely your own. So if any planner, or wedding professional, tells you to nix your DIY ideas...just say, 'Thank you very much'...and walk away. Find someone who will embrace your uniqueness and love every idea you have!!!!

Hazzah...Addison & James Got Married!...

Shouts of HAZZAH! could be heard from all the guests at James and Addison's wedding as the happy couple were pronounced 'Husband and Wife', and their Officiant, 'Murphy' said, 'Mr. Brooks, you may now kiss Mrs. Brooks'. Hazzah!!!!

'Hazzah', you say...what the heck? Well, by definition, 'hazzah' is "an archaic English interjection of joy" (thank you Wikipedia), or the old world equivalent to 'Hurrah'. You see, James and Addison met because both are members of the 'Society for Creative Anachronism'. A fun-loving group of folks who love to dress up in 17th century costumes, fight with swords and drink Mead (honey wine). So it was fitting that along with applause, exuberant 'Hazzah's' with fists raised were given to the newlyweds as they took their first walk, hand-in-hand, as husband and wife.

Addison called 'InnCredible Events' in the midst of her wedding planning. She had all her vendors lined up, signed contracts in hand, and her 'MidSummer's Night Dream' theme in mind when she found us on 'WeddingWire'. In the beginning, she was convinced she didn't 'need no stinkin' wedding planners' (her words, not mine...LOL)...until...! We knew instantly, we had to make her dream come true! Just look at her, she's a Princess!

And...well, he's just as cute as a bug!

There were so many wonderful DIY elements to Addison and James wedding that it would take a manuscript to tell you about all of them. Suffice it to say, we all worked very late into the evening Friday night before the wedding.

The day of the wedding, while the finishing touches were put on the Shakespeare Club, Addison was getting her hair and make-up done, and getting into her absolutely gorgeous dress.

Oh my goodness, I have to tell you, Addison's dress was so big that it took up the entire back of my SUV with the seats down! The ladies at 'Renfro's Bridal' laughed at me as I tried to lovingly 'stuff' it into my car... (Note to self...next time a bride tells me her dress is BIG, believe her...and bring a bigger car...LOL!)

Once dressed, our happy couple chose to do a 'first sight'...and it was magical....

Then our 'Daddy's Little Girl' did the most amazing thing...she did a 'first sight' with her dad. Warning...these photos may bring tears to your eyes.

Once the ceremony was complete, the 'I Do's' were spoken...and the Groomsmen and Gal had strutted their stuff...

And the Bride and Bridesmaids posed so pretty...

It was time to PARTY...and party they did. This crowd was wild and crazy!!!!

Some wonderful, and embarrassing, toasts were given...hee hee. Too cute!

And then our darling bride stood up to say a few words of her own. Addison took the mic and proceeded to look lovingly into James eyes and say, 'In our family there is no such thing as divorce...only funerals'. The guests went wild!!!! James blushed...and Addison grinned impishly from ear to ear...hee hee!

Then James escorted his new bride to the dance floor!

After all the 'First Dances', and a 'Married Couples Dance' (most of the guests had been married forever, amazing!)...everyone else hit the floor...

And the best part...everyone, and I mean, everyone, danced like nobody was watching...LOL. Too much fun!

And just when the guests were beginning to think that things were winding down, Marjorie and I opened the curtains...and SURPRISE!!! 'The Rocker's' began rockin' the house!!!.

Then the glow sticks came out...You know it's time to call it a night when the 'glow sticks' come out...LOL! This wedding was too much fun!

Marjorie and I have sooooo many wonderful memories from Addison and James wedding. Without a doubt, this was one of the 'funnest' weddings we've ever worked. We met some fabulously fun people, amazing vendors and made new friends. Mama Lori, we love you and 'The William! Thanks Addison for choosing us! We had a blast! Hazzah!!!!! And lots of love!

Wedding Planner or No Wedding Planner...???

For some reason at this time of year, every bride I meet with always asks me the same question: 'Why should I hire a wedding planner?' Well, before I get into the 'nuts and bolts' of all the benefits of hiring a professional to manage the 'biggest day of your life', I'm going to let one of our InnCredible brides, Addison Brooks, give you her two-cents worth on the subject.

This is what Addison wrote in her wedding program and shared with all her guests...(and just FYI, Marjorie and I were flabbergasted and honored!)

"When we first started preparing for a wedding, we thought, 'Eh, we don't need no stinkin' planners." Several months ago we realized, 'Uh yeah, planners would be good." Now we have a duo of wedding planning geniuses and they are heaven sent. Carrell & Marjorie asked the questions we didn't think of, got in contact with people we never thought of, and gave us so much advice while allowing us to not have to change who were are or the vision of our wedding. I'd be a wreck. Mom and I would probably be at each other's throats, and James would be reviewing escape routes. So thank you girls from all of us for keeping us sane, me in control and my mother happy. Cause if Mama ain't happy, we ain't happy."

Well, as you might guess...Mama was happy...very happy.!

A wedding planner will act as your go-between and will advocate on your behalf to handle any stressful situation that comes up, regardless of whether it’s with a family member, friend or vendor. Remember, they work for you and will do whatever it takes to ease your stress.

Reviews YOUR Contracts and Prepares YOUR Timeline...
A wedding doesn’t just run itself. It takes a lot of time and effort to put it together. On average a professional wedding planner will take several hours working and reworking a timeline to make sure that every aspect of your wedding happens the way, and at the time, you want. In doing so, they must review all your vendor contracts and coordinate with these vendors to make sure everyone is on the same page. Then they have to put all this information down in your timeline to make sure everyone involved understands their part in your wedding. It’s a lengthy and necessary process and one that you, the bride, don’t want to have to deal with.

Runs YOUR Rehearsal and Orchestrates YOUR Wedding Day...
The success of your ceremony is based on your rehearsal. A wedding planner will make sure everyone in your wedding party knows their place and what to do during the ceremony. They will make sure everyone shows up to the ceremony on time, make sure the guys ties are straight, the gals hold their bouquets correctly, and that you make a show-stopping entrance. Oh, and one other wee bit of advice: when selecting a wedding planner, make sure they’re a professional and not someone who does wedding planning as a hobby. You want to make sure your dream wedding meets, or rather, exceeds your expectations, so be sure to hire a professional!

The Name-Change Game...

Happy New Year everyone. Marjorie and I hope your 2012 is as magical as all of you are!

We have some new things in store for you this year, one being asking our brides to contribute to our blog. What better way to connect with all of you then to let our brides do the talking...we thought you'd like that! So, here we go!

Typically, Marjorie and I don't endorse products. Well, not a lot of products anyway. In fact, I think there has only been one product we have ever endorsed, and that is 'MissNowMrs', the fabulous company that helps you change your name, if you're so inclined to do so. We love this company so much we give our brides a 'MissNowMrs' gift card when they sign up for our 'InnCredible Events' wedding planning services. Makes sense, right!

I know we've all heard horror stories about the trials and tribulations that brides, and some grooms, have gone through to change their names after they say, 'I Do'. Even I, a wedding planner, listened to the anger and frustration from my son and daughter-in-law as they went through this tedious process. No fun! No fun at all!

"I received a gift card to MissNowMrs from my amazing wedding planner. Not knowing what it was, I looked it up and discovered a website that makes it very easy to change your last name after getting married all in one spot.

After talking to other brides, I was not looking forward to having to change my name everywhere and gathering all the right forms and documents. However, MissNowMrs makes it oh so easy! I sound like an info. ad, but it's true! It has every place you may need to change your name, from the post office, to the obvious social security, to your bank account and more. There are a handful of generic forms to fill out on yourself and husband, and then with a click, all the information is sent to every form you may need to change your name. All I had to do was print out the forms, follow the step-by-step direction they have for each form, and mail them out. The only one I had to physically go in for was for the DMV, which was easy since they now take appointments.

After planning a wedding in 3 months while starting a new job and getting my Master's Degree, there was no way I would of had enough time to find each form needed, fill them out, and take them in individually. MissNowMrs saved me a lot of time and now I am proudly Mrs. Claiborne!"

A Wee Bit of Holiday Cheer...

'It's that time of year when the world falls in love' and we are all anticipating a number of engagements over the next few weeks. So let me say, 'Congratulations' in advance and may we wish you happy wedding planning.

As we head into this happy time of year, InnCredible Events will be taking some time off so we too can spend time with our families. I'm staying here in Coloma and all my kids are joining me for a Christmas celebration, yippee....while Marjorie is in Homer, Alaska with family...brrrr! It will be a grand time for all.

So I was listening to a webinar the other day and the presenter said to, 'always be yourself'...and to go out on a limb and be controversial every now and then. So here I go...this is my 'now and then'. Hate me if you will, agree with me if you might, but please read. And let me know what you think! Thanks!

When writing a negative review of a vendor, please remember...we are not perfect...we are human, just like you. Sometimes we forget things, and sometimes, heaven forbid, we even make mistakes. So the next time you start to write a review, ask yourself, how would I feel if I received this?

Don't get me wrong, I'm all for writing reviews...good and bad. But I'm also for being constructive, not hateful. We vendors strive to make sure your wedding is perfect, and in most cases, we work our fannies off to make sure that happens...but we can't do that if we don't know something is bothering you until after the fact. So instead of keeping things all 'bottled up' inside you until after your wedding...communicate. Don't wait until everything is 'said and done', and your big day is over to drop the bomb on us.

I'm telling you this because I was just 'blind-sided' by a bride who we thought was very pleased with our services and to whom we'd given 150%. It wasn't until 'after the fact' that we found out there were things she was dissatisfied with. Now, I know, 'you can't please all the people all the time', however, if these things that were upsetting to her had been brought to our attention, I would have made sure they were handled. As it was, I knew nothing, and therefore, could do nothing.

The 'take-away' for me is that I did learn a lot from this experience because I always look for the 'silver lining'. And that is, I need to be clearer on what is included, and not included, in our packages...and I also need to check in with how my brides/grooms are feeling on all levels much more often. And from now on I'll be doing that and more.

So, take it from me, one who just had the 'wind taken out of her sails'...let us know what we're doing right...and what, in your eyes, we're doing wrong. Most of the time, it's just an issue of miscommunication that can be cleared up immediately.

However, since there are always exceptions to every rule, in the event that you have tried and tried to work with a vendor and are getting nowhere, either 'fire' them, or write your review. It might save another bride from your heartache.

'By the Sea...By the Sea...By the Beautiful Sea'

I was born and raised in Southern California and spent all my summer days frolicking at the beaches along So Cal coast. Manhattan, Hermosa, Redondo...you name it, my footprints are probably still in the sand there somewhere.

When I was young, my dear Auntie Junie would pack my cousins, Michael and Maggie, in the car 'bright and early' every morning, head down to pick me up, and off we'd go...picnic basket, beach towels and umbrella in hand. Sorry ladies, we didn't have sunscreen way back then...hee hee! Anyway, we'd body surf until the golden So Cal sun began to set on the horizon before packing up and heading home. It was a glorious way to spend my childhood!

Recently, when Marjorie and I went on our mini-retreat after our wedding season ended, we headed to Bodega Bay on the Northern California coast for some R & R. And this past week, my youngest daughter, Halley, and I were down in San Diego celebrating Thanksgiving with my son, Cameron, my daughter-in-law, Tiffany, and the Sanborn Clan; Missy Meagan, Steve, Marjorie and Craig, along with all the pups, of course...so it just seemed fitting to grab a bit of inspiration from the ocean this week.

If you're planning your wedding on the beach, here are a few of the things I think are 'musts' for an InnCredible beach wedding....

A gorgeous mermaid dress...of course. That just makes sense, right? Mermaids and oceans just naturally go together...don't you agree?

A fantabulous pair of beach inspired heels. These are a definite must! And these Polka Dot ones rock!

A campy little bridesmaids dress. This one is too cute...and reminds me of the blue blue ocean and sea foam. Perfect!

This amazingly InnCredible brooch bouquet complete with rhinestone sea shells. Oh my goodness...love...love...love it!

Star fish. Oh wait, I'm sorry...Sea Stars. I love them too and they seem to be everywhere on this 'InnSpiration Board'...LOL!

And of course, some InnCredible flip flops! I love these Havaianas! One cannot be at the beach without a great pair of flip flops...and these have star fish! Oh dang, there I go again, I mean, 'sea stars'...sorry, I'm just a creature of habit!

Now...if I wanted to go 'over-the-top' and get a bit 'wild and crazy', I'd add more color...a lot more color. Nothing like color to bring out the party in everyone! Right? Call me crazy, but I love this color combination and think it's perfect for a beach wedding with pizzazz!!!

It Takes A Village...'Our Wedding' Magazine Shoot

I spent most of my career in broadcasting...both in front of the camera and behind a mic, so I'm very familiar with television and radio production, but magazine, not so much. So, when we were contacted by Debbie Hurst, Art Director for 'Sacramento Magazine', about doing a 12-page photo shoot at the Coloma Country Inn for their 'Our Wedding' magazine, I jumped at the opportunity. And what I learned was...it takes a village to produce all those fabulous photo spreads you see in the magazines. Literally! I have never seen so many people working on one piece in my life. Talk about fun! By 9am, the Inn was all abuzz with activity...

Now, I can't show you any of the photos of the set-ups for each shot, or the shots themselves, you'll have to wait for 'Our Wedding' magazine to come out in December for that. But I can share the 'behind-the-scenes' of what goes on with something this spectacular.

First, I want to say a huge thanks to Beth Baugher from 'True Love Photo' for suggesting to the 'powers-that-be' at 'Sacramento Magazine' that the Coloma Country Inn would be the perfect backdrop for this fabulous shoot. Believe me, something like this does not just drop into your lap, so many heartfelt thanks to dear Beth...you rock! Isn't she just as cute as can be?

Ok, back to the shoot. First to arrive was the gorgeous bride/model, Kelsey Johnson. She was followed by hair stylist, Tina Romo, and make-up artist, Sherri Morris, and all their goodies! First up...hair. Believe me, I had no idea what all went into getting those amazing hair styles we all covet in the magazines...but I learned very quickly that there was no way I would ever be able to recreate any of the styles Tina was able to pull off...LOL!

Not only did Tina come with an arsenal of tools for her magnificent creations, she also came armed with an entire bag of orange hair pieces to create magic with Kelsey's hair...and when 'Our Wedding' magazine is released, you'll be able to see how Tina transformed Kelsey's beautiful long ginger locks into her InnCredible coifs.

Once hair was done...(and it took about an hour for Tina achieve the look Debbie, the Art Director, was going for)...it was time for make-up. Sherri Morris, owner of 'Brush Worxs Make-up Aristry', was the artist in charge. And ladies, look at this make-up. I was in heaven! I don't think I have ever seen so many different colors of eyeshadow, have you?

Or as many make-up brushes as Sherri brought with her. Oh my! I was like a kid in a candy store gawking at all these lovelies...hee hee.

And, best of all, they all came in this snazzy case. I know, 'girly-girl' heaven, right? Everything a gal could want, or need, all nicely packed in this great roller bag with a handle. Pretty cool, if you ask me!

Oh...and just so you know, our bride was not the only one who had their hair and make-up done for the shoot. Oh no! Our very handsome groom/model, Ryan Ferguson, also donned the make-up chair. Ryan's make-up didn't take nearly as long as Kelsey's, but it was still fascinating to watch Sherri work her magic and transform his look.

And once Tina was done with his hair, Ryan went from being just a 'regular' guy you'd see on the street to a gorgeous groom ready for his close-up. 'Oh, be still my beating heart!' LOL! Is this guy Hollywood handsome, or what?

Next up, wedding gowns. We all know that wedding gowns are a must when you're doing a photo shoot for a wedding magazine...and oh my goodness, the one's the stylist chose for this shoot were beyond stunning! Unfortunately, I can't show them to you either, you'll get to see them 'up close and personal' when the new issue is released, but I can tell you they came from 'House of Fashion', 'Miosa Couture', 'La Soie Bridal'. There were 9 fabulous couture gowns all together and each looked like it had walked the runway in NYC. Gorgeous...gorgeous...gorgeous gowns.

And, each of the gorgeous gowns came with an equally gorgeous price tag, so great care was taken to make sure NO dress was damaged during the shooting of this spread. I probably shouldn't tell you this, but I can't help myself...bride Kelsey stood on a brown tarp when shooting many of the scenes on the grass. Even with a high-end photo shoot such as this, 'if you break it, you buy it', and so the crew painstaking made sure the gowns were protected at all cost. Ok, now that the 'cat's out of the bag', you'll all have to look and see if you can see it under her feet. Hee hee.

Of course, we can't forget about jewelry, can we ladies?. Part of the stylists job was to match each gown with fabulous jewelry pieces...all provided by Macy's. Wouldn't you love to have an entire store to shop from when you needed that perfect necklace and pair of earrings? I know I would! I have to admit, I was coveting a few of these fab pieces. LOL!

And OMG ladies, check out her ROCK!. It's a train headlight! No one would say where it came from. But I have an idea. Hee hee!

And yes, there was a cake, of course! 'Sweet Cakes by Rebecca' delivered the most amazing cake I've ever seen. It was used in several shots and when the magazine comes out, you'll be able to see it in all it's glory. But for now, here are a few close-ups. Check out the detail! And yes, Styrofoam is under all those details.

And not to be outdone by the over-the-top wedding cake, were the flowers. Katie Edwards from 'Ambience Floral Design' delivered the most amazingly beautiful floral arrangements and bouquets ever. I absolutely love the calla lilies in the center of this springtime bouquet! Unfortunately, what you can't see in this photo is the gorgeous broach attached to the wrapping of this bouquet. Stunning...and it's in my office, even as we speak. I'm one lucky girl!!!

And, that was not all. Take a look at what Katie designed for the fountain in our 'Rose Garden'. Spectacular! I can't wait to see what the photos look like with the bride and groom and this floral display! It's going to be InnCredible!

Ok, enough of the fun stuff...back to the business at hand...the photo shoot. Now that hair and make-up are done, it's time to get our bride and groom dressed. And this is not as easy as it seems...oh no! In fact, SarahKreutz, Clothing Stylist for Sacramento Magazine, came all decked out with tape and binder clips to make sure each and every piece of clothing fit our bride and groom 'to a tee'. Because, as crazy as it may seem, even for this photo shoot, the clothes didn't really fit our couple...but after Sarah worked her magic, you would never know these outfits weren't designed with the bride and groom in mind.

And here's a funny sidebar, Sarah had to borrow a black belt from Marjorie, my 'partner in crime', because someone forgot to bring one for the groom. It's so comforting to know that even the most skilled of professionals forget things occasionally...thank goodness...makes me feel better...hee hee! And yes ladies, even our groom needed a binder clip or two. Evidently, in this business, one size does not fit all...hee hee!

Ok, let's not forget that village of people I mentioned because while the make-up was being applied, the hair was being done, and the gowns and jewelry was being picked out, there was a team of professionals outside deciding where to stage each photo.

These folks had been hard at work since they arrived, not only scouring the grounds for the perfect shoot locations, but also for any wonderful treasures they could use in each photo shoot. And believe me, the 'Coloma Country Inn' is a 'treasure trove' of fabulous finds. Love this love seat? Well, so did the designers, and you'll see it in one of the scenes!

When the team decided on a location and a look, and had all their goodies in hand, a crew went to work staging the area.

Then, once the bride and groom were camera-ready and dressed, it was off to shoot. Again, I'm not at liberty to show you any of those pictures but setting the scenes was pretty exciting!

Ok, now comes the easy part, right. No way! Taking one of these stellar pictures is not as easy as it seems, nor is it like a photo you and I would take with our phone or camera. There were people all over the place, who you never see, making sure the lighting was right, holding scrims, checking meters, re-adjusting clothing, re-touching make-up and hair. Oh my goodness. Nine different locations...nine different clothing changes...nine different looks...all in a days work!

And in the middle of it all was photographer extraordinaire, Beth, crawling in on hands and knees for that perfect close-up, laying on the ground for another shot, laughing out loud with the most outrageous laugh you've ever heard to get an instantaneous, and spontaneous, laugh or smile from the bride and groom for that 'one in a million' shot. She was a hoot! And by her side every step of the way were her assistants. You go girls, oops, and guy!

And when Beth gave her 'ok', the crew picked up and moved on to the next location, and it began all over again...and again...and again! Talk about a long day.

Now you can understand why I said it takes a village. For this one shoot, which started at 9:00am and went until well after 6:00pm, there were 19 people, and/or companies, who worked on turning Debbie's fab idea into a reality. Here's a list of all those who worked this photo shoot:

Brides Come In All Shapes, Sizes and Colors...Thank Goodness!..

So, I purposely waited until after Bridal Week in Chicago and New York before stepping forth and reposting this fabulous article by Xochitl Gonzalez, co-founder of 'Always A Bridesmaid', which was featured in 'HuffPost Weddings' on November 3, 2011. I wanted all the fervor to die down from the excitement of Bridal Fashion Week so I was sure to get everyone's attention. What I'm going to re-post is somewhat controversial, but I think it speaks the truth.

Aptly titled, 'Why Is There No Big Bliss on the Bridal Runway?', Ms. Gonzalez, speaks to the bridal industry turning a blinds eye to any bride that does not fit into their ideal. As the mother of two beautiful, and amazing, daughters who do not fit into this 'Size 0' stereotype, I have felt their pain as they tried on one bridesmaids dress after another trying to find one that fit their personality and shape. I can only imagine what this experience will be like when they become brides. As a wedding planner, I've also heard horror stories from brides, and their mothers, about their dress buying experiences because they weren't in the norm...and it breaks my heart!

Personally, I believe any designer can make a gown look stunning on a runway model, but I challenge them to make the same gown look equally as stunning on the 'average' or 'plus size' bride. In a perfect world, designers would pay attention to postings such as this and change their ways. Will they? That remains to be seen. But at least we have women like Xochitl Gonzalez to hold them accountable.

Why Is There No Big Bliss On The Bridal Runway?

'We are coming off of one of the biggest weekends for the wedding industry: Bridal Market a.k.a. Bridal Fashion Week. Taking place in New York bi-annually, it attracts buyers, editors, bloggers, event designers and planners and showcases the most glamorous designs the bridal world has to offer.

What it does not showcase however are any models that actually look like the average American bride. I know, I know, not another article about how models are too skinny. But, here is the difference: the market for plus-size women looking to spend $3,000 or more on a Lanvin jersey dress for the office is only a fraction of the size of plus-size women looking to spend $3,000 or more on a wedding gown. Considering that more than 64 percent of women in the U.S. are overweight, and that wedding gowns range from $300-$30,000, my argument is that it simply makes SENSE to showcase on the runway how these gowns might look on body types that will actually buy them.

As a member of the wedding industry who has been working with brides for the past eight years, I've always been particularly horrified at the persona non-grata status that has been given to "plus size" girls getting married. I used quotations because I'm not just talking about women who are extremely overweight; I'm talking about the numerous women over size 10 who are traumatized by the joyous experience of wedding dress shopping because they can't fit into the very teeny sample sizes that most bridal salons carry. If you are reading this and had the experience of having a sample wedding gown placed on you, pinned in the back and trying to imagine what it would be like when it was made just for you... imagine if you couldn't put on the dress at all, had someone hold it in front of you and ask you to order it on blind faith that once in your size it would look great! To say that it would be the opposite of joyous is an understatement.

Equally horrible is the salon practice of only stocking sample sizes of gowns deemed to be "Plus Size Friendly" a.k.a. "Ball gowns" and "A-lines." Recently, we took a client of ours with a hefty gown budget shopping and we stormed out of a very, very reputable designer's salon because its staff refused to show her anything but a ball gown, insisting that everything else would be "unflattering" to her size 18 frame.

Truly, I'm not trying to beat the dead horse of "why are fashion models so skinny?" That is an issue, but it's a life-workable issue. I don't have a model body and I don't have a super-model clothing budget and I mainly read fashion mags and look at fashion runway for inspiration. My experience of actually shopping is quite different--I take what "concepts" I saw that might work on my body and find the equivalent in my budget and size.

But when it comes to bridal, I've always felt that the experience of being a bride is part inspiration browser (ooh! Awesome escort card idea!) And part catalogue shopper (ooh! I love these earrings and this veil, where can I buy them?). The average girl reading a bridal mag or blog, looking at bridal runway or visiting a bridal salon is looking to actually purchase one of these actual gowns. She isn't looking for "inspiration" she is looking for her dream dress and she is willing to drop between $500 and $10,000 on it.

I've often wondered why we never see more variety of body type or plus size models in these dresses at runway or in editorial. Honestly, even when you look at Real Weddings, you might think that no real brides are actually a bit thick or big or whatever term you might use for a girl who isn't model skinny. Why more designers/publications/advertisers aren't inviting potential buyers to imagine themselves in the dream gown vs. someone else's body is beyond me. It's funny that at a time of life when a woman has found someone else who loves her for who she is, the process of being a bride can make you wish you were someone else.

I know that everyone wants to sell idealized fantasy, but don't we want girls to still be themselves? (Then again, I maybe just don't get it. I also never understood why bridal runway models never smile... real brides do). I think this is the same principal that annoys me (even when we write about it on this very blog) about all these wedding weight loss ideas and diets. I totally appreciate that everyone wants to look their best--before my wedding I was in pilates two times a week and who knows if I ate any bread for months--but sometimes it seems just a hop, skip and a jump from "wedding body makeovers" and fitting into the dream dress to that horrible "Bridalplasty" show that was on E! for a while.

That said, I'm heartened to know that lots of people feel the same way that we do. Mayra, my business partner, texted me the other day to say that she couldn't get enough of "Say Yes to the Dress: Big Bliss." It takes the very awesome "Say Yes to the Dress" formula but showcases plus size brides who are able to see samples and sizes at Kleinfeld. The show was launched largely because Kleinfeld knows that these women have often arrived at the shop having had awful experiences at other salons and have been made to feel that somehow their bridal experience wouldn't be as special because of their size. Kleinfeld is able to turn the frown around because they have always devotedly stocked plus-size samples and buy gowns with many body types in mind. So, yay for " Say Yes to the Dress: Big Bliss." Hip, Hip, Hooray for Randy Fenoli and company for wanting to make all brides feel amazing. I hope that we can all take a bit of a lesson from that and in the process make a little more room for all brides to feel comfortable being themselves.'

Bridal Week in Chicago...

Well ladies, 'Bridal Week' has come and gone in Chicago and just ramping up in NYC. Unfortunately, I was unable to attend any of the shows. Not that I was invited, mind you, but it still would have been a nice gesture to receive an invitation in the mail. Right! I mean, I am the coolest wedding blogger around, wouldn't you agree? LOL!

And even though my invitation was lost in the mail, along with my invitation to the Royal nuptials, this year there were lots of new trends that graced the runway. And the one that caught my eye was a newly rediscovered interest in modesty. One of the dresses that received the most attention, and I thought was absolutely gorgeous, was this throw back to the 50's Anne Barge gown with pockets. It has 'Mad Men' written all over it!!!! Classic, elegant and, oh so sophisticated! And it has pockets!!!!

Tulle was another big winner at this years show. The runway was literally overrun with Tulle. So, if you're a lover of this fabulously ethereal fabric, you're in luck. Salons all over the country will be stocking many dresses that bring out the fairytale bride in all of us. And as always, Vera Wang delights with this timeless 'A-Line' from her new 'White' collection.

Romona Keveza captivates us as well with her fairytale dress that will definitely take your breath away...especially with the exquisite veil. A little less structured this flowing gown screams romance. Simply beautiful!

Not to be outdone, this InnCredible Dennis Basso gown commissioned by none other than Kleinfeld's, of 'Say Yes to the Dress' fame, is sure to please as well with its top layer of lovely Tulle and peep-a-boo lace bodice. I'm sure we'll see many an episode where Randy will have prospective brides trying on this very dress! Stay tuned!

If you're a more sophisticated bride, you'll be happy to know that the trends are swinging back in your favor...and Anne Barge is leading the way to the reinstatement of classic and clean lines. Take a look at this beautiful gown with its impeccable style. Stunning!

You say you're more a Vintage bride. Well, you're in luck too. Trends are stepping back in time to the timeless Vintage classics, especially for outdoor weddings. Again, Anne Barge pleases with this amazing vintage gown with hand made lace. So InnCredibly Elegant!

Here's something new. The sleeveless dress with sleeves. Yep, you read that right. This fab Liz Fields 'Lo-Ve-La' gown gives the feeling of fun and sophistication with its twist on this new trend. Look for many a gown to copy this look. Love it! And look at that skirt! Amazing!

Vera Wang is always a trend setter at any bridal week but this year she outdid herself. This year, not only did she excite with her 'White' collection, but she also stunned onlookers with her new 'Witchcraft' line. Take a look at this stunner from her newest collection. Yes ladies, it is a black wedding gown...but oh so fabulous!

And, if you're a lover of trains and over-the-top skirts, oh my, there were some 'to die for' ones featured this year in Chicago. Take a look at this stunner! Flamenco anyone?

Lazaro is always a favorite at any runway show...but in Chicago he outdid himself with his new designs. If you love lots and lots of fabric, you'll love the new Lazarro collection...take a look! Talk about a train! Wow!

He rounded out his collection this year with a classic designs with another phenomenal fluffy skirt.

The designers didn't forget about color either. There were a number of gowns that had a hint of color...and Lazaro was at the head of the class with this delicately stunning rosy pink gown.

Looking for a gown with a little less color, Liz Fields, 'Lo-Ve-La', rocked the runway with this marvelous pink gown. I love the lines on this dress and the ruffle treatment on the shoulder. Lovely!

And of course, Vera Wang designed an amazing nude dress for this year's collection. According to the experts, nude is the new white. So ladies take note, nude may be your color of choice. I could wear this dress!!!

Ok...for all the brides who are looking for a gown that isn't quite so 'couture', this year there were a number of gowns that would be perfect for us, 'not so couture', kinda gals. This beautiful one from Allure is just one of the many introduced in Chicago last week. I love the ruching around the waistline of this gown. So form fitting and elegant.

So, there you have it. Bridal Week 2011 in Chicago. The good news ladies is that soon there will be 'knock-offs' of all these designer dresses with prices we can afford gracing bridal salons all over the country. In fact, just the other day I saw a 'knock-off' of Princess Catherine, the former Kate Middleton, Duchess of Cambridge, dress in the window of Renfro's Bridal in Placerville. CA.

So, have no fear, if one of these dresses absolutely took your breath away, it'll soon appear on a rack near you. In the meantime, peruse the bridal magazines, all your favorite wedding websites and start thinking about what style of wedding dress you'd love to wear on your wedding day. The experts always say, 'you'll know YOUR dress the moment you put it on'.

And if you're wanting to go 'Green', check out these fab dresses that Katie at the 'Green Bride Guide' featured this morning from designer, Elizabeth St. John. Granted none were featured in Chicago this year, but all are couture...and all are made from recycled, vintage and organic materials. See, you don't have to wear a 'gunny sack', as Katie says to be a 'green bride', you can still be outrageously gorgeous!

Fall Is In The Air...

I love Fall...it's my favorite time of the year. I love how the craziness of Summer begins to fall away. The days get a bit longer. There is a crispness in the air. The night are cooler. And the best part of all, the leaves start turning those amazing colors you only ever see in the Fall. The reds are almost fluorescent. The yellows so brilliant they are too bright to look at. And the oranges take my breath away. These are the things I love about fall. Well, and the heartier meals...soup...fresh baked bread...and all those indulgences that are too much for the hot summer months but make us feel so comfy when the weather begins to chill.

As we head into those lazy days of Fall, I decided to take this golden opportunity and design a fall 'InnSpiration Board' with many of the things I love. I honestly don't think there is a more beautiful time of year to hold a wedding. Really. Look at this Farmer's Market out of the back of an old vintage pick up. Does it get any better than that? I don't think so...Wouldn't you just love to have this fab truck at your wedding? YES!

So, I created this 'InnSpiration Board' for all you Fall brides who are looking to bring the season into your wedding. The skies the limit when it comes to Fall weddings. Let your vision dictate your design. And for heavens sake...kick up your heals and have fun!

I'm Remiss.....

I'm remiss that I have not been able to post a blog spot in the last two months, especially since I learned at the Wedding MBA in Las Vegas that I should be posting twice a week...yikes. Now I feel really bad!!! But, with deciding to sell my house, staging my house, listing my house, showing my house, selling my house, then relocating to Coloma, CA...and having one of the craziest September's ever...there really wasn't a lot of free time to even catch my breath. Oh my! But, I'm back in action now, and you can expect posts regularly from now on...Promise!

And, if that wasn't enough to have on my plate, during this crazy time, I also spent a week in San Diego dog-sitting my 'grand-dog-ter', Kala. While there, I decided to treat myself to a mani & pedi...an indulgence that I rarely allow myself. Although I really should, because they're amazing! Sorry, I digressed. So...while I was sitting there in the chair at 'Be Beauty' sipping my InnCredible 'spa cocktail', I decided to pick up a copy of the latest 'Exquisite Weddings' magazine for a wee bit of wedding inspiration....

Yep, you heard me...'Cleavage and Cupcake Parties'...intimate lingerie parties for the bride and her bridesmaids. The lucky gals all gather at an intimate apparel store, such as 'Intimacy' in San Diego, and get fitted with beautiful lingerie especially for the 'Big Day'...and share a bit of the bubbly...of course! Sounds like fun to me!!! Sign me up! There is nothing more fabulous than beautiful new lingerie to make a gal feel on top of the world.

'Icing-free Wedding Cakes'...

Crazy, I know. Who would want a wedding cake with no frosting? Well, evidently a lot of brides in this So Cal trendy community. Brides are flocking to bakeries in search of wedding cakes that are 'deconstructed with an emphasis on taste and a rustic look', says Annie Packman, founder of www.marryyoume.com. I know, call me crazy, but I'm not an icing fan, so this trendy cake sounds yum to me! Give it a try, you might be surprised...

Rose gold is making a comeback...and couples in San Diego are all over this rediscovered treasure. Rose Gold is a gold and copper alloy which originated in Russia in the nineteenth century. 'Photo Wall Entrances'...

Much to my surprise, and delight, our dear friend, and San Diego wedding planner, Meaghan Schmaltz of 'Weddings Made Splendid' was featured in 'Exquisite Weddings' magazine discussing a 'Photo Wall' one of her couples designed. 'Rather than display a single image on an easel, couples are opting to tell their story in a larger-than-life way through photo walls. This new trend makes a sensory impact on guests and let's them in on a couple's life prior to the day of the wedding rather than just witnessing their special day', Meaghan said. 'Photo Walls' come in all shapes and sizes, from the large one Meaghan spoke about, to smaller ones, like the one our 'MidSummer's Night Dream Bride', Addison, is planning on using in the foyer of the Placerville Shakespeare Clubhouse. What fun!

'Welcome Baskets'...

We all love these...and they are such a nice touch for guests who are visiting from out of town. 'Welcome Baskets' serve as not only a 'Thank You' but also as a treat for introducing guests to the area where your wedding is being held. So, if you're planning a destination wedding, even if it's not necessarily a destination for you, putting these together for your guests is a lovely gesture. And they don't need to be fancy, just a little basket of goodies from the area, maybe a map and some things to do. You'll be surprised how much your guests appreciate the kind thought...and the goodies too...LOL!

Oh my goodness...we really love these....right. But then, who doesn't? What could be better than a gorgeous wedding dress with pockets? Well, frankly, I can't think of anything. Franci & Chad Get Married!

I love my job! I really do! In fact, I think I have the greatest job in the world. Believe it or not, I actually get to help make fabulous couple's dream weddings come true. Who could ask for anything more? Not me! That's for sure! Hee hee!

This past weekend, one of our favorite couples got married....our darling Franci and Chad! Are they too cute, or what?

Thankfully, my partner in crime, Marjorie, had her camera handy so she could snap a few photos of their InnCredible wedding and I could share them with you. I have a feeling we're going to have to wait quite awhile for Franci's Uncle Jesse to get us his professional photos...hee hee... :) So thanks best friend for snapping away!

Suffice it to say, I have adored Franci from the moment I met her...we instantly clicked...so being able to be part of her and Chad's special day was such an honor. Franci is one of the kindest, sweetest gals on the planet, and just being in her presence made my heart sing with pleasure. So, I took every opportunity to be by her side...LOL!

Franci was all about DIY...and that is one of the things Marjorie and I love most about our brides. We thrive on all the wonderfully creative touches they bring to their weddings. Unlike a number of our fellow wedding professionals, Marjorie and I actually love to see couples bring wee bits of themselves to their weddings through their DIY projects.

Franci had a number of hand-made pieces at her wedding that really made a statement about who they were as a couple. And because we're such advocates of DIY, I'm going to take this opportunity to share some of her creativeness with you. I hope Franci knows, we've been known to 'borrow' a few of these fab ideas and use them again and again...but, shhhhh! Don't tell anyone...LOL!

Lavender was a huge part of Franci's wedding and I love how she incorporated it into a number of different things, like these sachet wedding favors. My 'Wedding Office' still smells amazing thanks to all the lavender the gals brought up.

Take a look at this close up...so cute!! And so easy to make! I already have mine in my lingerie drawer...oh yeah!

And, not only did Franci make a number of the decor items at her wedding, so did her mom, Kathie. Here is the gorgeous embroidered picture she gave Franci and Chad. We placed it on one of our 'Vintage Elegance' easels for everyone to see as they entered the reception area. Gorgeous! And what a treasure!

Franci's mom also made all the beautiful burlap table runners and embroidered their initials on each piece...18 in all. Pretty awesome!

And, as a surprise to Franci, she also made the burlap runners for the head table that spelled out her new last name...YOWELL. Fabulous, just fabulous!

But, my favorite touch had to be the Gift Table. Franci fell in love with our old vintage suitcases and wanted to use them on her gift table with the smaller one open for cards. The day of her wedding we were trying to figure out how to get the suitcase to stay open, when Marjorie, the creative talent that she is, found these cool vintage metal pieces to use. I think it's pretty InnCredible! And this is why we love DIY so much...you just never know what magic you'll create until it happens!

Franci also found a fabulous frame that worked wonderfully for her seating chart....

'Always a Bridesmaid?'

One of our favorite 'InnCredible Events' followers, Natalie, asked if we'd do a blog post on the responsibilities of a bridesmaid before, during and after the wedding. Well, of course Natalie...we'd love too!!!

However, (and there's always a 'however' with me, right!) in doing my research for this post, I found some fascinating information on how the tradition of bridesmaids came to be. So I thought I'd share these facts with you so you can see just how far we've come since ancient times.

It seems the tradition of having bridesmaids, and groomsmen as well, can be traced all the way back to early Roman times when bridesmaids would form a 'human shield' to protect the bride from thugs and thieves who might be interested in stealing her, or her dowry, as she made her way to her groom's village. This group of loyal women would dress identically to the bride so these ruffians wouldn't know which lass was the actual bride. Genius, right?

Later, it became Roman law that a bride and groom must have ten witnesses, who again, dressed like the bride and groom. It was believed this would ward off the nasty evil spirits who attended wedding ceremonies to do nothing more than to cause harm.

In 19th century Britain, folks believed that ill-wishers would join in the festivities to bring harm and bad 'juju' to the happy couple. So the tradition of everyone in the bridal party dressing identically continued. If you look at a wedding picture from Victorian England, it's often difficult to tell who the bride and groom are because everyone is wearing similar clothing. Is it the couple in the front, hmmm, no one really knows...LOL!

Others reference the Bible, and the story of Jacob and his two wives, Leah and Rachel, who according to the Book of Genesis, came with their own 'maids'. These 'maids' were actually servants and not chosen friends. :(

And just so we don't leave the grooms out completely, similar traditions were in place for the guys as well. As the story goes, way back when, grooms would have to steal their beloveds from their families who usually weren't as excited about the pending nuptials as the bride and groom. It's believed that the groom would hold his bride by the left hand so he could fight off opponents with the sword in his right hand. This is where many believe the tradition of a bride standing on the left side of her groom at the altar originated. I had no idea!!!! Did you?

Today, we're a bit more civilized and have relaxed these ancient traditions quite a bit. Instead of needing a 'human shield', bride's today choose their best friends and favorite family members to be their bridesmaids. So, what does this honor mean? And what responsibilities does this honor come with? Well, read on....

According to 'The Bride's Maids'...

The Bridesmaids are a collection of the most important women in the Brides life. You do not have to like them all, but you do have to get along. Leave all pettiness at home, be gracious - even if it kills you.
The Bridesmaids will accompany the bride when she goes shopping for her dress, if the wedding party is large, only the Maid of Honor should accompany the Bride, too many opinions make it difficult for everyone.
The Bride and the Bridesmaids will choose the bridesmaids dresses, accessories, shoes and jewelry. This may be a time consuming and expensive shopping trip. Who pays for what will be a big question, each situation is unique. Be sure that everyone is aware of the expectations before committing.
Hair and make up expenses are usually paid by the Bridesmaids, if the Bride wants everyone to be made up together, then the Bride should cover part or all of the costs.
Help address the invitations.
Assist in creating the wedding favors.
The Maid of Honor with the Bridesmaids will plan a bridal shower and a bachelorette party.
Help to spread the word about where the couple are registered, this is not mentioned in the wedding invitation - ever.
Help coordinate the out of town guests, arrange transportation and accommodation, and prepare a welcome basket for the out of towners.
Collect the gifts and envelopes at the reception and make sure they are safe.
Help direct guests to their seats, making them feel comfortable and generally overseeing the reception.
They will need to be trusted friends, and good listeners, carry lots of tissue and do some hand holding.
They will make sure you have something to eat, get plenty of rest, and take over where Mom left off.

The Budget Battle...

In the excitement of an upcoming wedding, many couples don't consider the bottom line, or a budget. Many head out into the wedding world all 'gung-ho' ready to make their wedding the ONE wedding that everyone will remember...end of story! But, the bottom line is, whether they want to admit it or not, every couple has a budget. What that budget is, is an individual decision. But, more and more, Marjorie and I are hearing couples tell us they have a 'strict budget'...and a number they want to stick to.

Unfortunately, the majority of couples we talk with have no idea how much the average wedding costs. While there are several variables involved in the 'bottom line', there are averages that can give couples an idea of what to expect. So, in an effort to help you stay within your 'budget', I'm taking a break from all the fun of planning a wedding and getting down to some 'brass tacks'.

In the US, the average wedding costs over $24,000. However, according to www.CostOfWedding.com, most couples spend between $18,000 and $30,000...with a number of couples going well above these totals.

Gasp...I know...I know! But, don't despair, there is help. If you click on this link...'Wedding Cost Estimator' will help you figure out your 'bottom line' before things get out of control. In addition, I also found a couple of other websites that were very easy to use: 'OurDreamWedding.com' and 'WeddingPlanningOnABudget.com'. Both these sites immediately brought up editable worksheets for you to use . If you prefer to use a word document use 'Our Dream Wedding'. Like Excel, then 'Wedding Planning on a Budget' is for you.

So how do all the individual costs break down? Good question. Let's find out!

Ceremony...$2,462 - $3,953*
If you hold your ceremony in a church, synagogue or temple, expect to pay for the use of your chosen place of worship, in addition to paying the Officiant for their services as well. These costs usually range from $50-$150.00. And, you'll need to tip your Officiant another $50-$100.00, so be sure to add that into your ceremony cost.

If your ceremony takes place in a garden or venue, typically your only cost is for your Officiant, plus their tip.

Added to your ceremony cost is your Rehearsal Dinner. Experts say, depending upon the number of people invited, this total can easily reach $1,000 or more. So, plan accordingly.

Venue...$2,081-$3,341*
Depending upon your vision, your venue can be one of the most costly parts of your wedding. Some venues discount pricing if you hold your wedding on a day other than Saturday, so check with each venue for possible discounts. Also ask your venue if they have an 'all-inclusive' wedding package. While your vendor choices may be limited , these 'all-inclusive' packages are usually your most budget-friendly options.

Reception...$13,540-$21,298*
Without a doubt, your reception is, by far, the largest expense of your entire wedding. It equates to about 37% of your total wedding budget, with alcohol being the largest expense. Included in your reception total will be the costs of your florist, DJ or band, catering, cake, alcohol, photographer and videographer, rentals and decor. So, let's see how these break down!

Photography and Videography...$2,978-$4,781*
These two make up an estimated 10% of your wedding budget. If you're 'going for the gold' with these two professionals expect to pay upwards of $3,500 or more for your photographer, and $2,000 for your videographer. But, remember, these vendors are the ones who are going to capture all your wedding memories for you to cherish for years to come. So, depending upon what is most important to you, you might want to splurge in this area.

Flowers...$1,726-$2,771*
Most weddings include lots of flowers. Flowers at the church, flowers at the reception, flowers on the tables, bouquets, boutonnieres, corsages, baskets...etc. On average, if you love flowers, expect to pay dearly for your 'pop of color'. However, many couples are beginning to tone down their use of fancy floral displays and opting for simpler table arrangements and bouquets, which cost considerably less.

To help couples save money, some florists will order your flowers for you at wholesale prices, and allow you and your bridal party to come into their shops and put everything together as a group. It's a less expensive alternative and a great bonding experience...and loads of fun!

Catering...$6,399-$10,275*
Food is a very, very important part of any wedding...and for some couples, it's the most important component of all. But above all, alcohol is the number one charge to the catering bottom line. It's estimated the average couple spends $2,800 on alcohol alone...and if you choose to have an 'open bar' expect that total to increase significantly. To reduce your catering cost, cut down on the number of choices for guests, and look to simpler options...or, if your venue allows it, do a 'self-catered' wedding.

Also, often times, local wineries and breweries, will give significant discounts for weddings...so look locally first. You might be surprised by what you find!

DJ/Band/Music...$509-$2,598*
Ah, to the fun part. Music makes your wedding fun, no doubt. The sight of guests dancing the night away is one of the best 'take-aways' from any wedding. But, these professionals can be costly. So, here again, you as a couple must decide what aspect of your wedding is the most important and where you want to put the most money. Some couples are opting to put all their ceremony and reception music on an iPod and have a professional monitor it and act as emcee...this costs much less. But, remember to check with your venue if you're choosing this option.

Wedding Cake...$454-$730*
Your cake is another very important part of your wedding, especially if you're wanting to do the traditional 'cake cutting' ceremony. However, many couples are choosing to downsize their cakes and use a smaller cake for display and have a sheet cake cut for guests to enjoy. This will cut your costs dramatically. If you want to do a 'dessert bar', you can opt to have family and friends bring their favorite handmade desserts to serve to guests, even if you and your beloved are 'cutting the cake'.

One thing to remember is...above and beyond the categories I've mentioned here, there are several more things that will ultimately add to your bottom line. Don't forget your wedding dress and headpiece/veil, the grooms tux, rings, invitations, guestbook, place cards, 'save the date' cards, 'thank you' notes, reception decor, rentals, hair and make-up, wedding favors, attendants gifts, wedding planner, transportation...etc. All these things add up quickly and should be considered when you're figuring out your budget.

So, there you have it...the ugly truth about the costs of weddings in California. If you want to find out exactly what the averages are in your area, click on www.CostOfWedding.com and drop in your zip code, then click 'Show Wedding Cost' and viola, the totals specific to your area will pop up!

So, before you panic, look at the numbers provided by these great websites and decide what things are most important to you, and go from there. One great way to cut costs is to look for newer vendors that are trying to break into the marketplace. They are usually priced substantially below the veteran professionals and are eager to do whatever it takes for a great recommendation. My son, Cameron, and my daughter-in-law, Tiffany, did just that, and aside from one vendor who didn't live up to their expectations, everything else was perfect.

And, of course, always hire a Wedding Planner. They'll be able to help you with the fine details, negotiate on your behalf and make sure you stay on 'budget' and don't get talked into doing anything you don't want to do.

'Bye Bye Birdie, Bye Bye'

I have to admit, it's been quite challenging for me to find inspiration during this time when I'm in the process of selling my house and relocating to Coloma, CA. But, through all the chaos and long hours of cleaning, painting and moving, the one thing that is a constant in my life are the lovely little birdies that wake me every morning with their sweet songs, and keep me company all day long. So, to honor this blessing, I'm dedicating this blog post to my feathery friends who grace my days with joy and happiness.

I love birds...in fact, I don't know too many people who don't love them...well, except for our darling Missy Meagan, that is! There's even an episode of the TV show, 'Portlandia' titled, 'Put A Bird On It'. This episode happens to be my daughter, Ailis, favorite! And she's got birds on everything...as she says, just, 'put a bird on it', and it's sooo much better. So, it was loads of fun finding the creative inspiration that couples have used to incorporate these lovlies into their weddings.

I even found a killer pair of shoes with feathers that I'd LOVE to have! Fabulous, right?

Can't you just see them with this amazing wedding dress....???? Oh yeah!

Even our darling bride, Jenn, is planning on hanging vintage bird cages from the gorgeous weeping willow tree on the grounds of Coloma Country Inn as the backdrop for their ceremony. I can't wait to see her InnCredible design. Jenn is a manager at Anthropologie, so you know it's gonna be an InnCredible 'Anthro' inspired look!!!! I promise to post pictures!! We're all still wondering if she chose a BHLDN wedding dress...hmmm? We'll find out on September 18th!

Baby You're a Firework!

I know I've been a 'bad blogger' the past few weeks, and I do apologize! But those of you who know me personally, know that I've been working like a 'crazy woman' trying to get my house ready to sell so I can officially move to Coloma, CA and run 'InnCredible Events' out of the 'Coloma Country Inn'.

So, my time lately has been taken up with painting...painting...and more painting; fixing and replacing things; touching up things here and there; cleaning, cleaning and then cleaning some more; packing a trailer; moving the trailer; unloading that trailer; and then coming home and doing it all over again. And all this time spent getting the house ready to go 'on the market', and hosting two 'Open Houses' back-to-back, has meant one thing...very little 'free time'! And this lack of 'free time' equals no time for blogs... :(
I'm so sorry!

However, I decided on this 4th of July, I'd take a moment to share a bit of wedding inspiration for all you brides out there who are looking for a 'red, white and blue' wedding next year. Some of what I found was fun and fabulous ...and some was, well...over the top.

In the 'fun and fabulous' category...shoes, of course!

Personally, I think the red shoes are fabulous! But, I guess that goes without saying. LOL! Couldn't pass these up, could I?

These red crystal earrings are simply stunning! I bet they look like a cascade of fireworks when they catch the light!

And this white Anna Maier Ulla-Majia wedding dress is absolutely gorgeous with it's explosion of fantasy on the side. Perfect for celebrating your wedding and spirit of America!

However, if you're a bride who wants to add a bit more color to your red, white and blue wedding, take a look at this beauty! Stunning, elegant and festive!

Want to be a wee bit more patriotic? This dress will definitely put you and 'Old Glory' way 'over-the-top!' Wouldn't it be fun to walk down the aisle to a John Phillip Sousa march? Now, that's patriotic!

And speaking of 'over-the-top', take a peek at this head piece. I think Prince William's cousin, Princess Eugenie, might have worn this as a 'fascinator' if the Royal wedding was over here in the States. Hee hee....! Although, she'd have moved it to her forehead...oh my!

I have to admit, no matter how hard I try, and believe me, I have tried, I can't say I was 'fascinated' by this 'fascinator'...how about you?

'A Rose By Any Other Name' is a...What?

When country super-star, Miranda Lambert, walked down the aisle to meet her cowboy, and fellow country super-star, Blake Shelton, she not only rocked her stellar cowboy boots, she carried a brooch bouquet designed from pieces given to her by her bridesmaids. InnCredible!

And Miranda is not the only bride choosing to walk 'flower free'. As 'green' trends gain in popularity, couples are looking for ways to be more eco-friendly, and for some, bridal bouquets are taking on a whole new look. In fact, if you can imagine it, you can probably bouquet-it!

Brooch bouquets are by-far the most popular twist on the traditional flower bouquet. And while these bouquets are gorgeous, they can also be a wee bit on the heavy side. It is reported that Miranda's bouquet weighed about 5 pounds! But, does any bride really care when she's carrying a bouquet this beautiful!!! Nope, not one little bit!

If you're not 'into' brooches, how about buttons? We all have button jars at home, right? How sweet is this? Love it!

Another big trend this year is paper flower bouquets. In fact, the latest edition of 'The Knot - Northern California' has an entire page devoted to paper bouquets. Lovely! And, I can't even tell these are paper, can you?

And while we're talking about paper, let's not forget the most popular paper art, origami. If you love origami, here's the perfect bouquet! And, I don't know about you, but to me, those look like dollar bills. Talk about a 'head start' on marriage!

Pinwheels are hugely popular too...and if your theme is centered around this fun childhood favorite, why not carry that theme through your bouquet? Darling...darling...darling!

Love feathers? Well take a look at this InnCredible bouquet...it's so whimsical!

Every year the butterflies come back to Pacific Grove, California, but you can have them with you on your special day with a fab butterfly bouquet. Don't you just love this! It's so bright and colorful.

Getting married at the beach, then how about carrying a seashell bouquet as you walk down the sand to meet your husband-to-be! What a beautiful look!

And I couldn't end this blog post without mentioning one of our favorite trends...succulents. If you're using succulents on your tables, why not carry this campy bouquet?

The good news about these bouquets is that they will last virtually forever! Well, accept for the succulent bouquet, that is...

And if you absolutely love flowers, like my daughter-in-law, Tiffany, and just can't think about walking down the aisle without them, well, you're in luck. Flowers are still the number one choice in bouquets today.

Just remember, the choice is always yours. Pick the bouquet that fits your personality, the theme of your wedding and your colors, and enjoy your big day!

Puppies on Parade!

Look at that face! How can you not love that face? Everyone who owns a dog absolutely thinks their dog is the cutest puppy ever. So as wedding trends begin to shift, more and more couples are choosing to include their 'furry friends' in their 'paws-itively' perfect days.

Seriously, now-a-days, dogs aren't just pets, they're members of our families...and many times, we take them everywhere we go...right?
Well, at least I do! LOL! So to some, not including their 'fur-people' in one of the biggest days of their lives is completely out of the question and unacceptable. I mean, seriously, how could you say 'NO' to that face!

If you're one of the growing trend bound and determined to include your pup in your ceremony, here are a few tips to make sure you, and the furry member of your bridal party, are all happy campers.

Always check with your venue to make sure you can include your pup in the festivities. Many outdoor venues will allow you to include them, but it's always nice to ask before you just show up and expect it to be ok. Some indoor facilities are changing their 'no pets' policies and are beginning to allow pets as well..but they may have a few restrictions, so again, check with your venue.

Before you 'jump in with both feet' on this idea, make sure your pup is the type that can handle large crowds and intense situations. Some dogs handle these types of situations very well, and others...well, not so much!

(Who are these people?)

Experts suggest that you either hire a trainer or designate someone, not in your wedding party, to take care of bowzer all day so you can enjoy your reception without worrying about how your pup is doing. It might be advisable, depending upon the temperament of your dog, to ask a friend to drive Fido home so they can rest after the big soiree, or bring their crate for comfort and a nap. And don't forget a bowl of water and a dish of food!

(Can we go now? Pleeeaassee!)

Always, always, always have someone walk your dog before your ceremony. Nothing spells disaster faster than having your dog relieve him or herself at the altar. Trust me, this is NOT the one thing you want everyone to remember about your wedding!

(I really gotta go...I really gotta go!)

When taking photos with your dog, try to take them before your ceremony to ensure that your pup will be fresh faced and ready for their photo-op.

Be reasonable about your dogs abilities before you decide their role in your wedding. If you have a puppy, for instance, it's probably a given that they aren't going to be able to sit quietly while your entire ceremony is being conducted.

(Ok...I'm done!)

It's also suggested that you dress your pup in the outfit they'll be wearing the day of your wedding so they get used to the new additions. That will keep them from pulling and tugging at the garments and trying to rip them off while your ceremony is happening.

Sometimes being clever just doesn't cut it. If you want your dog to act as your 'Ring Bearer' make sure you have a pillow, or pouch, for them to carry the rings. In fact, using 'fake' rings is much better idea...that way you don't run the risk of loosing the rings before they get to the altar.

And for heaven sake....practice...practice...practice! Just like trying to teach your dog a new behavior or trick, practice makes perfect! It's a good idea to take your pup to your wedding location several times so they can get used to the surroundings and practice...that way their job becomes routine.

Oh, and just in case you're wondering...dogs aren't the only pets in weddings. Oh no...!!! Believe it or not, some people have included their cats, horses, and birds. Oh my!

Stick Your Neck Out! ...

Necklines are another concern for a lot of brides. In watching, 'Say Yes to the Dress' last Friday night, one bride was terribly confused about which neckline was which...and I have to say, I too was a bit confused. So, with that in mind, I decided to expand my series on wedding dresses for one more week and see if I can take some of the guess work out of necklines.

We learned during our 'Mother's Day' dress trying experimental extravaganza that a neckline can make, or break, a dress...and that different necklines look better on some brides more so than others. We quickly discovered that while every gorgeous dress from 'Here Comes the Bride' that our Missy Meagan tried on looked fabulous on her, the neckline that by far took our breath away was the 'Sweetheart' neckline. Now, I'm not saying the others weren't pretty, they just didn't make the statement that the 'Sweetheart' neckline did on our Meagan.

So, armed with this information, I'm going to take each of the most popular necklines, one-by-one, and define them so you have an idea of what makes each different from another. And, oh my goodness, we have so many to get through...let's not waste any more time. So without further ado...

Let's start with Meagan's favorite...

The 'Sweetheart' neckline...

The 'Sweetheart' neckline gets it's name from the shape it makes as the dip in the front of the dress forms a 'V', then arcs over each breast to form the top of a heart. Most 'Sweetheart' necklines are found on strapless dresses, but many now have sleeves of varying lengths as well.

The 'Scoop' neckline...

The 'Scoop' neckline 'scoops' down from one shoulder to the other making a 'U' shape. Like a 'V' neck, the 'Scoop' neck can be high or low depending on the amount of skin a bride is comfortable showing on her big day. This neckline is often seen with sleeves and is a great shape for all brides.

The 'V' neckline...

The 'V' neck is exactly what it says it is...a neckline that forms a 'V'. The neckline starts at the shoulder and plunges down to either a deep 'V' or a shallow one, again depending upon the comfort level of the bride. This is a good neckline for most brides. And, FYI, even though I love the 'V' necked dress I used in my 'InnSpiration Board', I changed it out for this picture so you wouldn't get confused between it and an 'Halter' neckline which comes next. See how easy it is to get confused...!

The 'Halter' neckline...

Ok...see how similar these two are. The 'Halter' neckline differs from the 'V' neckline because the straps come from the back of the neck and not off the shoulders. Typically you'll see this style combined with a 'scoop' or 'round' neck, but if you're wanting a sexier look, go with the 'V' neck...definitely. And ladies, this style will never have sleeves...ever!

The 'Square' neckline...

The 'Square' neckline forms a straight line across the chest with the straps coming off the bodice at 90 degree angles. This style is very flattering with sleeves, so if you're wanting a bit more coverage on your arms, this would be a neckline to look at choosing.

The 'Strapless' neckline...

By and large, one of the most popular style of neckline on wedding dresses for 2011. This classic design wraps the brides upper body from right under the arms. If you do the 'dip' in the middle it becomes a 'Sweetheart' shape...but straight across like the one above is your 'classic' strapless. This style doesn't come with sleeves. Obviously!

The 'Sabrina' neckline...

Named after Audrey Hepburn's character in the 1954 movie of the same name, this neckline is quite similar to the 'Scoop' neck except it comes off the shoulders at a bit wider angle that begins 2 inches inside the shoulder. It is also sits higher on the neck than most 'Scoop' necklines. If you're the classic movie star bride, this neckline is definitely for you.

The Bateau/Boat/Jewel neckline...

Another classic style made famous by another classic woman. This style neckline is reported the one Jackie Kennedy, then Jacqueline Bouvier, wore when she married former President John F. Kennedy. This rounded neckline reaches just above the collar bone and is typically referred to as a 'jewel' neckline because it was designed to showcase a fine piece of jewelery on a woman's neck. If you've wearing a show-stopping, stunning necklace, this style might be your answer!

The 'Portrait' neckline...

The 'Portrait' neckline has a sweeping flow of fabric from the tip of one shoulder to the other, and usually hints at a bit of a 'cowl' neckline as well. This soft 'scoop' neckline is often confused with the 'Off-the-Shoulder' design but the 'Portrait' neckline has more fabric on the bodice.

The 'Off-the-Shoulder' neckline...

Just as it's described, this neckline sits off the brides shoulders showcasing her collarbone and shoulders. It also has small sleeves that cover the upper arms. This particular gown marries both the 'Off-the-Shoulder' design with a bit of a 'V' neckline for a fabulous look. Are you getting the idea of how these necklines can 'blur the edges?'

The 'Asymmetrical' or 'One-Shoulder' neckline...

Hugely popular with brides these days, in fact, two brides on a recent episode of 'Say Yes to the Dress' actually said 'Yes' to 'Asymmetrical' neckline dresses. It's easy to pick out this neckline so it needs little explanation. Experts say it's a great look for almost any bride.

The 'High' neckline...

I didn't include this style in my 'InnSpriation Board' because I found most dresses in this style resembled a 'High' neckline 'Halter' dress like the one above, and I'd already had a 'Halter' on my board. As you can see, this neckline comes up quite 'high' on the neck and usually completely encircles the neck as well. It's quite an InnCredible silhouette, don't you think?

For those of you who are wanting to be a bit more discreet on your wedding day, there are dresses that do have the very 'High' neckline and a completely covered bodice. These are not as popular as the style above, and are usually reserved for a more formal black-tie church weddings.

The 'Queen Anne' neckline...

This neckline is named after the infamous, Queen Anne, the woman who first popularized the style. This style has a diamond shaped opening across the chest area, a high back and usually some type of sleeve. It's a very elegant presentation and perfect for a more formal occasion.

And lastly...finally, I know. Who knew there were so many necklines to choose from. I certainly didn't. Yikes! I never thought we'd ever get through all these. LOL!

But we have come to the end...and I've saved the last dress in honor of our darling Kate Middleton, now HRH Duchess of Cambridge. I present to you...

The 'Illusion' neckline...

What more can we say? Stunningly beautiful! This fairytale princess took our breaths away when she stepped out of the car in her gorgeous Sarah Burton gown. The neckline on her dress is called an 'Illusion' neckline because of the sheer lace panel of fabric that extends from the bust line to the shoulder creating a fun, and sexy, little addition to the look of the dress. This panel can be made of lace, tulle or net and does an InnCredible job of creating...an 'illusion'. And, Princess Catherine carried it off beautifully!

So, there you have it ladies. The 'ins and outs' of wedding dress necklines. Now you can feel confident walking into your dress appointment knowing you're armed with the latest information on wedding dress styles and the different necklines. What more could you ask? No, I'm not getting into 'sleeves' or 'fabric' choices. Those I will leave to all of you.

Decisions...Decisions...Decisions?

Now that we know that buying a wedding dress is not at all like what we see on 'Say Yes to the Dress', how do you know which styles are which, and which style to pick for your body type? Good question!

I know many of you have probably already spent hours and hours surfing the internet, perusing the latest wedding magazines, marking pages and/or tearing out pictures of dresses you love. But...and here's the big question...do you really know what the different styles are and what to ask for when you go for your first shopping trip? I know I didn't!

I was so naive way back in the 1970's when I got married, I pretty much picked out what I was told to buy. Thank goodness, dresses and styles have changed dramatically since then. I shudder to think of what I wore...and, 'NO', I won't post a picture. Instead, I'll save you all the horror, and post a cute one of our imposter bride-to-be, Missy Meagan, in one of the gorgeous gowns from 'Here Comes the Bride', and we can all pretend it's me...LOL!

Since I don't want anyone to be as naive as I was, this week's 'InnSpiration Board' is designed to showcases the most popular 'silhouettes', as they are known in the industry, of wedding gowns found in every bridal store or salon. I'm going to walk you through each style, one-by-one, so you have a better idea of how one style differs from another, and can ask for them by name! Yippee!

Ok, let's get started!

The Ball Gown...

This is, by far, the most popular style of dress...and the one that most brides think of when they hear the words 'wedding gown'. You'll notice it has a tightly fitted bodice, a well defined waist and very full skirt. It's perfect gown for any bride wanting a fairy tale wedding to her Prince Charming.

The A-Line/Princess Dress...

The 'A-Line' or 'Princess' gown is another very popular choice with brides. Tight through the bodice, it flairs out just below your natural waist giving the allusion of a capital 'A" as it flows to the ground. This silhouette is considered by many to be the 'all forgiving' shape that will flatter any bride...and make her feel like a Princess!

The Fit-And-Flair/Trumpet Gown...

Very similar, and often confused with the 'Mermaid' gown, the 'Fit-and-Flair' or 'Trumpet' gown is fitted tightly from the bodice to just below the hip line where it flairs out to the floor. This is a very slimming silhouette which lengthens the body. Perfect for the bride wanting to 'show-off' her figure.

The Mermaid Dress...

You can really see the similarity to the 'Fit-and-Flair' dress. But the 'Mermaid' gown is tight through the bodice all the way down to just about the knees where it flairs out to give the illusion of a mermaids tail. It's a beautiful silhouette for a bride looking for a slimming and dramatic statement.

The Sheath/Column Dress...

The 'Sheath', or 'Column', dress is considered by many to be the most flattering style for any bride to choose. It has a narrow shape that hugs your curves without a defined waistline, and typically flows to the hem straight from the shoulders. It has a very stunning silhouette, don't you think?

The Empire Gown...

Sometimes mistaken for a 'Sheath' or 'Column' gown, the 'Empire' dress is defined by a raised waist line starting right under the tightly fitted bodice, and has a skirt that flows from the bust line to the floor. This is a classic design and a great dress of any bride.

And finally,

The Baby-Doll Dress...

These dresses tend to mimic the p.j's by the same name, and are shorter in length than your traditional wedding gown. They are cute and fun, and great for an outdoor casual wedding and a bride who wants to be comfy, yet beautiful at the same time.

So, when it comes to choosing your perfect dress, remember that certain dresses are going to look better on certain body types; that's just the way it is. So, don't get discouraged if your dream dress doesn't look as InnCredible when you put it on as you imagined. Take your time. Go with your gut! And remember, as Rebecca from 'Here Comes the Bride' said, 'keep an open mind' because you just never know what is going to rock your heart until you try it on.
